Prosperity Mine/Fish Lake

Synopsis

Taseko Mines Ltd. is proposing an open-pit gold-copper mine at Teztan Biny (Fish Lake), 195 km SW of Williams Lake in the Chilcotin. The mine would destroy Fish Lake, and its estimated 85,000 rainbow trout. The mine plan would create a dam for the waste rock and tailings just above Fish Lake on Fish Creek. On July 2, 2010, a federal panel reported that the project would have significant environmental effects. The federal government will render a decision in late summer, 2010.
