Ajax Mining Project
|
Synopsis KGHM-Ajax Mining Corp (a joint venture of Abacus Mining and Exploration, of Vancouver, and KGHM Polska Miedź, a Polish company) is proposing an open pit copper mine on the southwest edge of Kamloops, partly within city boundaries, 1.5 km from two subdivisions. The mine will operate for 23 years, producing 60,000 tonnes of ore per day. Concerns include pollution of local lakes and streams, including Kamloops Lake and the Thomson River, tailings dumps and “process” or waste water. |
