Chilliwack River Valley gravel mining
|
Synopsis Southview Sorting obtained a mining permit in Sept 2010 to operate a 176,000 tonne per year gravel and aggregate business on 40 ha on Larson's Bench along the Chilliwack Lake Road. Concerns: proximity to Chilliwack River, inclusion of a section of the Trans Canada Trail, a "red zone" in the OCP and therefore off limits to aggregate mining, an environmentally sensitive area. Demands for local control are a response to ineffective provincial oversight of gravel operations. |
