Northwest Transmission Line

Synopsis

A new 335 km, 287 kV transmission line between Terrace and Bob Quinn Lake on Highway 37. Est. cost $400 million. In Sept 2008, the Province provided funding for the environmental assessment and consultation processes. In Sept 2009, the federal government committed to $130 million subsidy. The provincial govt hopes for up to $90 million in private investment. EA approval in Feb 2011. Construction start 2011. Completion 2014.

Resolution

The project was given its authorization in the BC Clean Energy Act and which removed it from oversight by the BC Utilities Commission. It received environmental approval in February 2011. Right-of-way clearing and road-building started in 2011, and construction is expected to begin in 2012. The NTL will be in operation in 2014. See construction schedule here.
