Klappan Coalbed Methane Project
|
Synopsis In 2004, Royal Dutch Shell acquired petroleum and natural gas rights in the Klappan Coalfied. The coalbed methane potential in the coalfield is the third largest in British Columbia, estimated at 8.1 tcf or 9% of the provincial total. In 2004 the company drilled three wells, but has drill none since because of protest and blockades by Tahltan families from Iskut, dissension in Tahltan governance, and at the end of 2008, because of a government-imposed moratorium of two years. |
