BP Mist Mountain Coalbed Methane

Synopsis

BP has petroleum and natural gas rights to over 500 square kilometres in the Crowsnest Coalfield, acquired in 2008. BP states it is conducting environmental studies and aerial geophysical surveys, and has applied for no drilling permits. BP envisions more than 1000 wells at full build-out. Concerns are about industrialization of wilderness, disruption of habitat, impacts on water in the Elk River watershed. In July 2010, BP drilled one exploration well.
