BURNCO Rock Products proposes to mine gravel for 20-30 years at McNab Creek in Howe Sound, barging it to concrete plants in Metro Vancouver. Initial extraction of 400,000 tonnes per year (tpa) will increase to 1.6 million tpa (mtpa) with spikes to 4 mtpa. Surface mining would give way to dredging to a depth of greater than 15 metres. Concerns are with habitat values in Howe Sound, salmon habitat in McNab Creek, and industrialization of a beautiful fjord. BC & CEAA environmental assessments.
