Edéhzhíe Protected Area

Synopsis

Edéhzhíe (eh-day-shae) includes the Horn Plateau, Horn River, Mills Lake and Willowlake River, approx. 25,000 km2 northwest of Great Slave Lake in the headwaters of the Mackenzie River. It is a unique ecosystem, with cultural significance and use for the Dehcho and Tłįchǫ people. Permanent protected status as a National Wildlife Area is being sought, but interim protection expired on October 31, 2010. Protection was renewed at the end of 2011 to May 31, 2013.

On Dec 21, 2011, the federal government extended the temporary protection of the Horn Plateau lands to May 31, 2013. Link
