Edéhzhíe Protected Area

Synopsis Edéhzhíe (eh-day-shae) includes the Horn Plateau, Horn River, Mills Lake and Willowlake River, approx. 25,000 km2 northwest of Great Slave Lake in the headwaters of the Mackenzie River. It is a unique ecosystem, with cultural significance and use for the Dehcho and Tłįchǫ people. Permanent protected status as a National Wildlife Area is being sought, but interim protection expired on October 31, 2010. Protection was renewed at the end of 2011 to May 31, 2013. |
